2f0c0d0b88 Introduce FEATURE_EXEC_PREFER_APPLETS = "re-execute our own 
executable if we asked to exec someting with argv[0] == known_applet"
Use it in init. Also respect PATH in init, remove explicit "/sbin" etc
from exec. Patch by Gabriel L. Somlo <somlo@cmu.edu>

getty: fix "getty -" support, and also do not try to chown/chmod "-"

bb_sanitize_server_stdio(0/1) -> bb_sanitize_stdio() + bb_daemonize();

7a431b3715 By popular request reinstate fakeidentd's standalone mode. 
Since this is also needed for other applets like telnetd,
introduce generic driver for such things.
It even supports inetd-wait ('linger') mode, when inetd
hands out listen socket to child and waits to it to die,
instead of handing out accepted socket and continuing
listening itself (nowait mode).
Code growth ~200 bytes.
NB: our inetd doesn't support wait mode yet (or mabe it is buggy).

d6772501db tar: fix and sanitize handling of long filenames/linknames 
(GNU extensions 'K' and 'L').
We correctly handle them when untarring now, but unfortunately
we still don't use them when tarring! That stupid 100 char limit
is still there!
The biggest problem is that we don't support 'pax' tar format.
Linux kernel tarballs are in this format... shame

75f8d080a2 telnetd: we were having telnetd with is ONLY inetd or ONLY standalone. 
What if I need to have both?? This patch introduces
CONFIG_FEATURE_TELNETD_STANDALONE: y - both, n - only inetd.

081e38483e Remove xcalloc() and convert its callers to xzalloc(). About half of them 
were using "1" as one of the arguments anyway, and as for the rest a multiply
and a push isn't noticeably bigger than pushing two arguments on the stack.

d921b2ecc0 Remove bb_ prefixes from xfuncs.c (and a few other places), consolidate 
things like xasprintf() into xfuncs.c, remove xprint_file_by_name() (it only
had one user), clean up lots of #includes...  General cleanup pass.  What I've
been doing for the last couple days.

And it conflicts!  I've removed httpd.c from this checkin due to somebody else
touching that file.  It builds for me.  I have to catch a bus.  (Now you know
why I'm looking forward to Mercurial.)

df822f2606 We need xsetuid() and xsetgid() because per-user process resource limits can 
prevent a process from switching to a user that has too many processes, and
when that happens WE'RE STILL ROOT.  See http://lwn.net/Articles/190331/

c7ddefc062 Attempt at fixing bug 815 by upgrading bb_spawn() so that builtins are at 
the start of the path.  (This should be under the same config option as
the standalone shell, but right now that's buried in the shell menu.)

Also add the ability to specify CONFIG_BUSYBOX_EXEC_PATH with /proc/self/exe
as an overrideable default.

399d2b5c24 Rich Felker suggested removing dprintf() from watch, and one thing led to 
another... This adds bb_xspawn() support, which does vfork/exec.  (I don't
know why using a static instead of a local adds ~40 bytes, but using
the local doesn't work...)

80b8ff07ca A pending item in my tree I might as well check in: I plan to migrate calloc() 
and bb_calloc() calls to bb_xzalloc() which allocates prezeroed memory but
only takes one argument (the size).

a389651115 Remove bb_strlen() in favor of -fno-builtin-strlen. Saves as many bytes 
as the old optimization did (actually does slightly better under gcc 4.0), and
simplifies the code.

552b56dfd1 Not quite compiler independent, but we've never tried to be gcc independent 
anyway.  This is at least less ugly than what was there before, and fixes
building all sources at once.

04095e58fb Move messages.c to libbb. Make each string in messages.c be its own .o file. 
This way, we can new get rid of all that tedious #define rubbish we used to
need to enable specific messages.  This way is enormously simpler, and as a
bonus also ends up saving us 96 bytes.
