top: standardize <Esc> key support with prompted input
In release 3.3.6, some commands were equipped with the concept of a 'default pid'. The initial implementation meant that the intuitive <Esc> key would not always be treated as one would expect under any well behaved UI. This patch ensures the expected <Esc> key behavior of: terminating user input while still making possible the necessary distinction between 'no input' & 'defaults'.
