PLATFORM_LINUX is a hidden configuration option which is disabled by

deemed to be Linux specific.
The only effect of PLATFORM_LINUX is to control compilation of
libbb/match_fstype.c. This file is only needed by mount and umount.

Commit d1b75e184 (httpd: permit non-default home directory with NOMMU
enabled) only works when used with the '-f' (foreground) option.
When '-f' isn't specified and NOMMU is enabled bb_daemonize_or_rexec()
is called to daemonize the server. Since the server process has been
re-execed the previous patch results in the xchdir() not being called.
Fix this by resetting the re_execed variable in this case.

mim runs scripts from a specification file which can be thought
of as an extremely limited Makefile. Neither make variables nor
dependencies are supported. By default the file 'Mimfile' is read.
An example:
hello:
echo hello $1
clean:
rm -rf *
The command 'mim' or 'mim hello' will echo 'hello'. Unlike 'make'
arguments after the first are available to the script; they don't
specify additional targets.
mim isn't enabled by default. Enabling it increases the size of the
binary by about 500 bytes.

Since commit d81af7216 (ash: eval: Reap zombies after built-in commands

enabled nofork applets potentially return the incorrect status.
The status value returned by evalcommand() in this case is obtained from
exitstatus in a call to waitforjob(NULL). This overwrites the status
set for nonfork applets.

As reported in bug 11441 when presented with a large number of quoted
arguments xargs can return 'argument line too long':
seq 10000 29999 | sed -e 's/^/"/' -e 's/$/"/' | busybox xargs echo
This happens because the variant of process_stdin() which handles quoted
arguments doesn't preserve state between calls. If the allowed number
of characters is exceeded part way through a quoted argument the next
call to process_stdin() incorrectly treats the terminating quote as a
starting quote, thus quoting all of the argument separators.

Handling of string searches in colon commands (e.g ':/pat1/,/pat2/cmd')
differ from standard vi:
- As reported in bug 10321 such searches can't be repeated using the
'n' command. This is because the last search pattern isn't updated.
- The search also can't be repeated using the command '://' because
an empty search pattern doesn't imply the use of the last search
pattern.
- Such searches should start on the line after the current line,
otherwise '://' never moves to the next occurrence of the pattern.
This can also affect other cases where line ranges are specified
using search patterns.

As reported in bug 11796 BusyBox vi incorrectly handles changes
to a word at the end of a line. If the following line starts
with whitespace changing or deleting the last word of a line
with the 'cw' or 'dw' commands causes the lines to be joined.
This happens because the range for the change returned by
find_range() covers all whitespace after the word, including
newlines. The problem can be fixed by setting 'ml' to zero
to indicate to yank_delete() that processing should stop at
the end of the current line.
However, this results in a new problem. 'dw' correctly deletes
all whitespace following the word but so does 'cw', which should
preserve the trailing whitespace. To fix this the code to omit
whitespace from the change is modified to include all whitespace
not just blanks.

Commit bb983f30e (vi: fix faulty undo after autoinsert) has a
number of problems:
- The commit message refers to 'autoinsert' when it really means
'autoindent'.
- The indentation of undo_push_insert() was incorrect.
- Most seriously the commit only fixed the problem for cases where
the indentation was exactly one character. This is because undo_push()
only allows single characters to be queued for UNDO_INS_QUEUED.
Lifting this restriction allows the example given in the previous
commit message (with a three character indent) to work.

BusyBox has support for embedded shell scripts. Two types can be
distinguished: custom scripts and scripts implementing applets.
Custom scripts should be placed in the 'embed' directory at build
time. They are given a default applet configuration and appear
as applets to the user but no further configuration is possible.
Applet scripts are integrated with the BusyBox build system and
are intended to be used to ship standard applets that just happen
to be implemented as scripts. They can be configured at build time
and appear just like native applets.
Such scripts should be placed in the 'applets_sh' directory. A stub
C program should be written to provide the usual applet configuration
details and placed in a suitable subsystem directory. It may be
helpful to have a configuration option to enable any dependencies the
script requires: see the 'nologin' applet for an example.

Using a negative pid to send TERM to a process group results in an
obscure error:

This is intended. Manpage says:
ARGUMENTS
pid Each pid can be one of four things:
...
-n where n is larger than 1. All processes in process group
n are signaled. When an argument of the form '-n' is
given, and it is meant to denote a process group, either
a signal must be specified first, or the argument must be
preceded by a '--' option, otherwise it will be taken as
the signal to send.

The '%m' conversion specifier prints an error message based on the
current value of 'errno'. It is available in the GNU C library,
Cygwin (since 2012), uClibc and musl.
It is not available in various BSDs, BSD-derived systems (MacOS,
Android) or Microsoft Windows.
Use a symbol defined in platform.h to control how error messages
can be formatted to display the 'errno' message. On platforms that
support it use '%m'; on other platforms use '%s' and strerror().
On platforms that have '%m' there is essentially no change in the
size of the binary. Otherwise:

There are two places in the code where strchr is used to determine if

suid flags
the offset of the applet name in the applet_name string
Change the applet_table build tool to store the flags in two separate
arrays (applet_flags and applet_suid). Replace applet_nameofs[] with a
smaller version that only stores a limited number of offsets.
This requires changes to the macros APPLET_IS_NOFORK, APPLET_IS_NOEXEC
and APPLET_SUID.
According to Valgrind the original find_applet_by_name required
353 cycles per call, averaged over all names. Adjusting the number
of known offsets allows space to be traded off against execution time:

Commit 1ecb996 attempted to make read_lines() use the last column of
the terminal (as re_wrap() did). There were two problems with this:
- The size of the buffer allocated for lines wasn't increased to allow
for the extra character.
- The test for width overflow was moved after the point where the
next character was added to the buffer. This caused a buffer overflow
in certain circumstances.
For example, if the line beyond the end of the display was wider than
the display read_lines() would initially read the partial line into a
buffer. When the user moved down read_lines() would be called again
to ensure the rest of the line was read. This would place the next
character in the partial line before checking for overflow.
This can be fixed by moving the test for overflow back to where it was
before commit 1ecb996 and changing the comparison to `>` rather than
`>=`.
There are two other places where buffers are created without allowing
for width+1 characters.

When read_lines tests whether a character will fit on the current
line it checks the *next* character but in case of overflow doesn't
display the *current* one. This results in the last column of the
terminal never being used.
The test in re_wrap (used when the terminal width changes or line
numbers are enabled/disabled) is different: it does allow the use
of the final column.

so that we can display percentages. Counting lines is avoided
